Hello from San Diego!
I hadn’t actually planned on blogging tonight – figuring this was just a transit day, but R brought the camera along to dinner, so I am now compelled to write!
Up this morning about 5 for the final pack-up and house-close-down. We got on the road about 7:30. A really lovely day for a drive across the desert – especially as the past two days have been so terribly windy and cold! Today, however, was lovely; clear and calm, and perfect for driving! We made really good time, and made it to our lovely hotel in San Diego about 1:45 pm.
We have broken the Hilton chains (finally!) and are staying at the Best Western Plus Island Palms Resort and Marina on Shelter Island – and it is absolutely lovely! Our dear friends, Lisa and Jon Walters, always stay here when they visit San Diego, and we can well understand why! Fortunately for us, our room – 513 – in the Casa Mare building, second floor, facing the bay, was ready and truly, it is amazing! It is a really HUGE double room with a massive TV, spacious patio with two chairs and table, as well as a wet bar, microwave, fridge, table and chairs! Very, very comfortable, and I wish we were staying for more than one night – but believe me, we will definitely be back!

We settled in and rested a bit before our 6 pm dinner reservation at Jack & Guilio’s Italian Restaurant in Old Town. That is really our favorite SD restaurant, and one to which I have been going now for over 50 years! (SOOOOO hard to believe, but it’s true…). Their Scampi ala Guilio is truly memorable – and of course, it’s what I always order when we go there! So of course, I ordered it tonight – and it was as fabulous was ever! Rhad their Scampi ala Diavalo, which was scampi in a spicy tomato sauce. R started dinner with a bowl of their excellent shrimp bisque; I had a dinner salad, which was huge! Neither of us had any room left for dessert, so we just headed back to the hotel and are in for the night!

Up tomorrow about 5, as I want to be heading for the Cross Border Xpress (CBX) to Tijuana Airport by 6:15 am! So – more later, from Mexico City!
